Artist Statement
Zack Garlitos is a Brooklyn native and self-taught photographer whose photographic practice is rooted in a desire to remain present amidst a world in which his attention is consistently pulled in different directions. When making portraits, Zack’s approach to photography encourages him to connect deliberately and fully with the people he photographs, fostering genuine connections and relationships with his portrait subjects. When he’s on the street, making photographs enables Zack to engage with the world around him, paying attention to visual tensions and harmonies he would otherwise overlook if not actively looking.
