Artist Statement
Ted McGrath creates mixed media paintings drawing inspiration from autobiographical experience, current events, and pop culture. The resultant works often contain a subtle, skewed humor and occasional emotional tenderness. Surfing wipeouts, mythological and b-movie monsters, ramshackle vehicles, and references to classical history painting rub up against abstract and gestural forms in tense and often dense pictures.
