Artist Statement

Founded in 2020, with its headquarters and heart in Greenpoint, SUDESTADA is a multidisciplinary studio at the intersection of fashion and art. We focus on identifying and amplifying the voices of all kinds of creatives—from artists to artisans, designers, brands, collectives, and beyond—who are often overlooked by the mainstream narrative of the industry. For Greenpoint Open Studios weekend, we’re thrilled to present the new collection from Casa Edel, a Guatemalan textile studio and homeware brand we love for its colorful, playful designs and the meaningful stories and hands behind every stitch. On Saturday, May 31, we’ll open our doors with a vibrant celebration hosted by Dulcina Abreau and The Vineyard Brands and NON World, and music by Sofia Insua. On Sunday, June 1, join Andrea Carazo, founder of Casa Edel, for an exclusive Stitch Session. Bring your own garments to transform and upcycle, or explore a curated selection of Casa Edel pieces.
