Artist Statement
The subjects of my paintings and collages are based on places I have experienced first hand or that are part of familiar contemporary life. I pull from direct observation through drawings and photographs, as well as from images taken from other sources. I visually build a version of a place often using off-kilter perspective, lush color and patterns to create a space that is familiar and romanticized and yet abstracted and inaccurate. My pieces are based on reality, yet they evolve into works that have a unique language and personality of their own which engulf the observer in a luminous concert of color and warmth.
