Artist Statement
In recent works, I play with my love of color and texture. Expressive and emotive, I draw on a myriad of different techniques to create paintings’ gestural, layering compositions, including pouring, torching roofing tar, staining, collaging, and even making a textural paste of saw dust and red dirt clay mixed with wallpaper glue that’s spread across works creating a mottled effect. The canvas surface often features accumulations of pigments and objects that invite allusions to a natural word. At the same time, the collaged strips of mesh drywall tape and plaster cloth recall decades of unearthing urban Brooklyn life. Celebrating the unlimited potential of color layered and abstraction, my recent journey reveals an ongoing investigation into nature and possibilities of painting.
