Artist Statement
Phil Ashworth is an illustrator with a focus in hand-rendered mediums including pen & ink, acrylic, watercolor, and oil paints. His work explores the balance of creating an image that is, on the surface, pleasing and eye-catching while examining a narrative that is satirical and disruptive. Playful, amplified colors attract and immerse the viewer, while the line work transforms the drawing into something else. By using certain characters, iconography, and a bit of humor, his work continually strives to examine the behaviors, traditions and aesthetics that are quintessential of American culture and the comfort and absurdity contained therein.
