Artist Statement

Working in painting, drawing, installation, animation, and photographic processes, Natalia creates a series of explorations that translate music into visual compositions by using color, form and shape to capture different elements of music. Her artwork is inspired by synesthesia, a neurological condition in which an external stimulus generates a reaction in two or more senses simultaneously. She is also inspired by Modernist theories of universal language, a word-less expression of humanity, or what makes us human. She seeks to create paintings that can be heard and felt, and interactive artworks, sculptures, and whimsical instruments which can be played, creating more art. Through her work, she strives to create connections; between music and visual art, and between people. She received her BFA in Visual Art, and Media/Film studies from the Macaulay Honors College at Queens College in 2012, and her MFA in Art at The City College of New York in 2015.
