Artist Statement

I am a maker, artist, and designer as well as a public librarian. I originally learned to knit and crochet from my grandmother. Over the years I have taught myself to spin yarn, dye fiber, and make felt. I have attended Penland School of Crafts, studying the applications of natural dyes, and the Shibori process as applied to weaving, with Catharine Ellis.I enjoy the art of making and relish the entire process from start to finish, and I like to work with sustainably sourced materials with known origins. Whenever possible, I use natural materials and processes that do no harm to myself, my community or the environment. It is important for me to be respectful of traditions and know the origins of my processes and the materials I use.
