Artist Statement

My art practice grapples with the mysterious and unknowable about the self and its relation to the other. Each work on paper or in clay develops intuitively from observations of the world around me and of my internal state as I navigate it. Often invoking hands as agents of both power and sensitivity, my works are rendered in a visual language inspired by the levity of cartoon but weighted with pathos. Through attention to light and shadow, each work obscures even as it reveals.
