Artist Statement

Artist duo Liz Squillace and Ruben Marroquin are painters and textile artists respectively who will share a space at 79 West, on top of the Stewart Cinema. Liz is a painter with a trajectory of public art projects in her native city of Bridgeport, CT. She is currently working on a restoration of the Broad St Steps in Bridgeport as well as pursuing a painting certificate from her alma mater R.I.S.D. Liz will present an exhibition of her latest works, inspired by Brooklyn's Greenpoint neighborhood. Ruben's textile work is sculptural in nature, resulting in voluminous forms emerging from aluminum frames. Marroquin works at the Fashion Institute of Technology as a C.A. for a weaving course, there will be a table-top weaving loom and examples of woven fabrics. The couple recently completed a 20' commission for Art in Embassies to be installed in the U.S. Consulate in Hermosillo, Mexico.
