Artist Statement
Kiki Carrillo creates small-scale, 3D characters using a variety of materials including felt, cardboard, friendship bracelet string, ribbon, and sparkles. She calls these characters Doll Babies and they later become the subjects of her still-life paintings. Kiki has always been interested in the balance of cute & creepy in her work, and recently her experience of being a new mother to an infant and toddler has presented itself in practically everything. She adores the process of painting from a still-life setup, and knows a piece is complete when it makes her giggle. Kiki also paints large-scale flower arrangements set against gradient backgrounds.
