Artist Statement
I am a painter and sculptor interested in the qualities of cute objects. Though often dismissed as unimportant and silly, cute objects are comforting and easy to connect with, thereby giving them a quiet strength. In my recent work, I explore this inconspicuous power. I hand sew miniature articles of clothing which later become the subjects of my still-life paintings. In simulating “cuteness” both pleasant and uneasy characteristics present themselves, and I orchestrate how they coincide visually.
