Kate Nielsen is a painter and illustrator living and working in Brooklyn, NY. Inspired by her interests in earth sciences, metaphysics, and consciousness, nielsen is known for her unique approach to painting. Her process involves a building-up of layers of paint onto sheets of glass that are then peeled, cut, and reincorporated into new forms. The results are meditations on the accumulation of layers and the excavation of materials, harnessing complexity, and finding simplicity within chaos. Viewers may find that Nielsen’s paintings conjure ideas of geological extremities, microscopic biology, and cosmic otherworldliness. She is a graduate of Rhode Island School of Design, and her work has been featured at the Strohl Art Center, Nha Minh, Present Company, and The Museum of Art and Design, among others.
