Artist Statement
I work in painting, usually from amassed digital source material. When choosing images I’m usually drawn toward dynamics which prioritize material over subject, or in which material transcends it’s more usual role of an “object”. To me there’s a deep beauty or liberation in human or figurative subjects becoming a supporting armature for material-My work is usually made in a period of uninterrupted action, during which the feverish pace of mark making embeds a kind of “instant-ness” in the surface. There’s something destructive in this sense, a freeze frame of the moment things blow apart under pressure.
