Artist Statement
Jose Aurelio Baez is a New York based visual artist who draws inspiration from and combines décollage techniques, portraiture and Abstract Expressionism in his paintings. Baez weaves gestural lines, saturated colors, with images and textures physically pulled from public walls. He often alludes to a human presence, hiding the presence of bodies in his paintings. Spirituality is a component to his work as he conjures fictional spaces, the forms are ghosts of their inhabitants.
