Artist Statement

Jessica is an interdisciplinary artist that focuses on dance, filmmaking and visual mixed media work. Storytelling, texture, play, and emotional inquiry are fueling ideas that spark across her practiced mediums. In her visual art, specifically through illustrations, you’ll see expressions and faces of women in varied forms of emotional states. Some of these characters have names and purpose and others exist as symbols, or tropes. In her colorful abstract works, there are varied textures or intentional lines and shapes, and sometimes objects. The array of colors sometimes meant to represent varied feelings and impulses mirroring a nervous system sometimes a simple smothered feeling or conduit of desire, anxiety or bliss.
