Artist Statement
I create visual poems when making art, often quoting mythology, art history, and Catholicism. Nature, figures, and collages are used to create my compositions. I find painting romantic and exploit that within the imagery in my work. The narrative scenes are often situated within frames or structures (often doors and windows), invoking graphic novels, television, and frescos. There are different visual points within the paintings, and hierarchies within the imagery. The light in the scenes comes through under the layering of the paint. The vegetation in the images signifies time and growth. Tomatoes are a repeated theme; they are naturally acidic and cause me heartburn. A toxic fruit I love.
