Artist Statement

In each of my abstractions, I develop an image-making prompt to be carried out by the body. These prompts are specifically designed to form an unpredictable result, a product purely based on its own process. Through performing such a parameter-driven process, any mistakes or flaws will stand out and permanently exist in the final product. This pushes me to approach painting with extreme precision and trust in my procedural approach; drafting meticulous linework, only to be relinquished through the distortion of material dissolution. In treating my canvas this way, I see my paintings as documents – interfaces of time, materiality, and myself; where every step of the process is recorded, evident, and interacting with the rest of the canvas.
