Artist Statement
David B. Smith makes kaleidoscopic textile artworks that are creepy, colorful and comforting. Smith starts with images sampled from YouTube, Instagram, and photographs of his daily life, alters them in Photoshop, then outputs them to fabric - only to start altering them again with analogue textile craft techniques. This collaborative installation with Greenpoint's artfully curated clothing store, Alter, explore the connection between art and clothing - and between textiles, identity, and style.
