Artist Statement
My work includes both sculptural installations and wall-based work, in a modernist vernacular. In both, I consider the way light and color affect form and the perception of space. The qualities and properties of a particular material influence the results. The 2-D pieces and are directly influenced by my studies of Bauhaus art and architecture, and a recent body of 3-D light-based sculptures and installations. I discovered the interesting perceptual ambiguities that fine-grade white mesh screening offers when painted, cut, hung, and draped. This is used in conjunction to painted mylar and colored acrylic theatre gels to enjoy the interaction of light, color and shadow on two and three dimensional planes.
