Artist Statement
Asia Sztencel, recipient of the 2023 Heritage Ambassador award from the Brooklyn Public Library, is an artist whose work delves into the immigrant experience through the prism of landscape memory. She uses art to foster connections between communities and ignite positive change. Through her projects, Sztencel creates environments that encourage growth and transformation, leveraging creative spaces to empower individuals to reclaim their surroundings and social connections. In 2024, her paintings are on display at the Greenpoint Branch of the Brooklyn Public Library, the result of her residency through the SU-CASA program. Additionally, she continues her colaborative project "You Can Carry Your Landscape With You," exploring the library's surroundings as a site for artistic exploration.
