Artist Statement
Arda Asena is a Turkish visual artist who lives and works in Brooklyn. Currently, Asena’s dark imagery examines questions of identity and silenced eroticism, which puts into question the (in) visibility of self within his work. Through visceral and reflective gestures, Asena explores how we choose to make sense of our identity as well as the varying and complex workings of the relationship between human mind and body. Themes of intimacy, gender, physical and mental contortions recur throughout his oeuvre.
