Artist Statement

Through his works, Andrew Nunes probes the cultural residue that spills out of the monolithic content machine of our era, searching for traces of unrealized value and meaning in the otherwise discarded heaps of endless slop. In his new sculpture 'When Barry Met Linda', Nunes weaves the narrative threads of an infamous meme depicting a stereotypical British working class male (Barry, 63) with that of his real-life progenitor, whose pre-meme virality comes from his weight loss story published in the Daily Mail (Derek Avery), both in turn 'linked' to the life of a deceased American woman, whose funerary tribute curiously shared the top SEO results for 'Barry, 63' on Google Images (Linda A. Barry).
