Artist Statement
My recent work is concerned with my family’s history. I am fascinated with story telling, oral histories, and the act of collecting as an extension of memory. I explore how a story can change overtime and how after numerous retellings a story becomes only a shadow of the original experience, both omitting elements and exaggerating others. It is natural to look back upon our pasts to help determine what leads us to become the people we are today. Through exploring the stories of my family’s history I develop work that speaks to myself as much as my relatives.
