Artist Statement

Caroline Harrison is an artist and illustrator who grew up in New England, and has been living and working in New York since 2010. Her drive to examine and understand experiences with alienation, anxiety, defiance, and horror informs her choices of repulsive or disquieting subjects. She loves to capture the jarring confusion that comes from unexpected mixtures of delicate beauty and unflinching grotesquery. Her drawings leverage the medium’s immediacy, its physicality, and its foundational relationship as a shared, early experience of artmaking to create meaningful connections with the viewer. In addition to her personal body of work, she has a career as an illustrator for musicians. She has collaborated with a number of artists across the heavy and underground music scenes, including SunnO))), Dethklok, Emma Ruth Rundle, Pig Destroyer, Marissa Nadler, Saetia, Kool Keith, Pyrrhon, Inter Arma, KEN mode, Artificial Brain, Chat Pile, Pile, Scarcity, and Portrayal of Guilt. She believes in the power of music and visual art to reach people, and to make them feel connected to something larger than themselves.
