The Ceramics Collection: This collection was inspired by a photo taken of a tea set that belongs to one of my favorite people. Dionna and I went on a trip to a cheap air bnb upstate to dedicate time to our respective practices: writing, painting, yoga, etc., and to our friendship. It was a magical two and a half days of solace among two close friends who are tragically distractable, despite their need to focus and create. It took me two years to finish “Teapot I”, and when it was finished, I loved it more than anything I’d ever done. It brings me back to pan fried fish, wooden floors, yellow leaves, deep breaths, and hot tea. The paintings that followed, “Homer I” and “Toad in a Teapot”, carry on that sense of comfort, but are more playfully explorative. The last two paintings in the collection are “Infinite Snake” and “Jasmine”, which is named for its subject. I’ve been working as a barista for the past seven years. When we want to make someone feel at home, we offer them a ceramic. May this collection invite you to stay.
