Holocene X8 Seraphim: Reflections on Connection, Consumption, and Control ~ A sculptural installation that invites people to consider how they participate in a world oversaturated by signal, image, and waste—where the consciousness meets the synthetic. Inspired by the seraphim—beings often depicted as radiant, multi-winged entities—the form is constructed from recycled CDs, repurposed bicycle tires, and reclaimed materials, presenting a figure that is ethereal, industrial and terrifying. The shimmering CDs echo the holographic nature of our realities, symbolizing the illusion of constant connection and the fragmented ways we engage with one another. Repurposed bicycle tires, once tools of motion and utility, now represent cycles—of consumption, of time, of transformation. A layered tapestry of reclaimed fabrics, plastics, artificial flowers, and tree branches forms the wings, evoking nature’s rhythms disrupted by human impact. At its core, Holocene X8 Seraphim proposes that we are both architects and casualties of our interconnected world. In an era where technology can bridge or divide, the work challenges us to consider how we wield that power: Do we build meaning, or perpetuate isolation? Do we consume mindlessly, or create with purpose? This piece aims to evoke reflection and provocation—urging recognition of our agency in shaping a future where connection is authentic, and creativity transforms waste into transcendence.
