Artist Statement

I began this head series by exploring indigenous patterns I was exposed to in my earlier life. These patterns are reminiscent of where I come from. Later, contrasting blueish textures developed while searching for a depth and richness to compliment these flat indigenous patterns. The characters in this series attempt to portray various symbols that wander my mind while experiencing everyday life. Each new drawing is challenged with the opportunity to create a new pattern or texture through new techniques picked up over time. My artistic practice favors a meticulous way of working with complex texture and pattern balanced by spontaneously playful geometries that focus on the simplicity of joy. It is a practice that suits my personality and way of life.
