Artist Statement

In Stencil Series, I am centering working campesinos, women and children on chaotic landscapes that are created by layering and disrupting textile patterns from Central America. The paintings are brightly colored, reference Latin American history, use themes of resistance, and employ the mythical. These are intimately sized paintings made on pre-fabricated, mass produced pre-stretched canvases. However, each image is laboriously produced through a layering of multiple hand-cut stencils that are spray painted onto the surface. The resulting images are further rendered with acrylic paint and markers.
