Artist Statement
Erik Jacobsen is a paper artist currently living in Brooklyn, NY. He uses paper to reimagine a world where classic household brands correspond to present day. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, his art has allowed him to express his frustrations and personal reactions to the current political landscape in America. In his latest series, Food for Thought: A Nostalgic Paper Route, Erik demonstrates nostalgia for his early childhood with recreations of candy and food packaging. By altering the packaging of established brands like Airheads and York Peppermint Patties, Erik highlights a loss of innocence, bringing social and political issues to light with a mischievous tone.
