Artist Statement
Painted Studies for In Fleur Essence: Inflorescence describes the blossoming of flowers from a main stem or branch. These sketches use floral imagery to explore my relationship with every woman who has influenced my life, who has helped inform my outlook and point of view. Focusing on colorful details and patterns, each of these gouache floral study depicts one of these women. Shown independently here, the colors and motifs represented in these studies are the foundation of a growing collection of symbols whose combination and reinterpretation in new materials will be used to further explore how these different relationships have come together.
