Artist Statement
From an early age, the artist has found both personal and cultural identity through the hours spent watching her grandmother weave in her childhood home, Turkey. Since relocating to the U.S., Moheb-Zandi has employed her personal history with textiles by mining countless sculptural possibilities and combining found materials such as plastic and rubber with traditional modes of textile fabrication.Through hand manipulation, surface treatment, and formal arrangement, Moheb-Zandi constructs horizontally-layered painterly compositions that captivate the viewer through the use of color and craft.
