Artist Statement

Born in Ecuador in 1980 and now based in Brooklyn, New York, I work across disciplines to examine how memory and the diasporic experience form and fracture identity. A fair amount of migratory trauma informs my process, surfacing as a persistent tension between self and other, presence and remembrance. I see my practice as a constellation of diaristic gestures. Through abstraction, automatism, and performative action, I propose relational spaces—both physical and mental—in which the body becomes a living archive and a vehicle for shared memory. I understand displacement not only as a historical condition, but as a lived and ongoing state of being. My work unfolds as an emotional landscape where memory functions simultaneously as conflict and refuge—a site of rupture and reconstruction. Within this space, I seek to hold vulnerability and resonance together, inviting viewers into a form of communion.
