Artist Statement

My practice merges figuration and abstraction, reality and fiction, in compositions that seek visual rhythm, material intensity, and narrative ambiguity. My work often oscillates between opposing energies—dramatic and joyful, violent and vibrant—depicting elements of everyday life, food, and characters, but also weapons, religious icons, and domestic objects alongside vivid abstractions and humorous forms. This plurality reflects my environment in Palermo, where I live and work in a decaying Baroque palazzo abandoned for over half a century. The contrast between faded grandeur and raw urban life—the tension between beauty, poverty, excess, and decay—continually feeds my imagery and gestural language. My work is ultimately about movement—between cultures, visual languages, and emotional states. I aim to create paintings that vibrate with life: unstable environments open to interpretation, rich in heterogeneous references, built from contradictory emotions, and deliberately unfinished. I approach these charged atmospheres as living collages, translating their rhythm into painting. Each piece begins as an improvisation and evolves into a constructed stage where motifs—fragments of still life, bar scenes, symbols, food packaging, and labels—collide and dissolve. I often leave raw or incomplete areas to create tension between surface and depth, order and chaos.
