Artist Statement

Sam Gilliland uses art to explore his seeker nature, choosing materials and methods that push at the edges of life’s big questions through experiential creativity. His work is increasingly shaped by experiments in consciousness, conscious states and the lived experience, dream journaling, myths and mythology, esotericism in history and practice, and ‘the phenomenon.’ His most recent body of work incorporates objects found on his ‘junk walks’ in industrial areas, exercises in focusing attention on discarded objects and letting them guide the mind and the creative impulse.
