Artist Statement
Sara Dotterer is a transdisciplinary artist based in Brooklyn, NY whose practice is rooted in finding interconnectivity: between her body and the earth, the visible and the hidden, the human and the more-than-human. Drawing on microscopic images of fungi, plant cells, and nerve tissue alongside rocks gathered on walks through cities and trails, she documents what exists below the threshold of ordinary perception. To make these hidden networks visible… to enlarge a cell, to brighten it, to carry a forgotten rock… is for her an act of hope: a way of finding color and connection in an uncertain existence. She holds a B.A. in Studio Art and Anthropology from Washington and Lee University and an MFA in Interdisciplinary Art from Southern Methodist University.
